A curiosity in the balance and sensitivity of fluid line extends from Alison’s work as a calligrapher and her fascination for Japanese calligraphy art. Recent Sumi-e (black ink painting) workshops both in Japan and Australia intensified this interest.

Visual form is suggested in subtlety of stroke using instinct to feel the ink as it flows from the brush. This intuitive use of fluid line initiates an honest connection through me as an artist and onto the surface.
